Love, Poetry & Suffering

I have no memory when I fell in love with poetry. I remember, I always enjoyed German language classes. Reading and analyzing, wondering what the author wanted to express and curious to find out what’s written between the lines. I started writing poems myself. Back in teenage days, my heart needed relief from suffering. Grief had a reason, something beautiful came out of it, something to remember. When ever I watch a movie or read a book, I do have a pen and paper in my hands, to make sure I won’t miss a thing. Words that touch my heart and soul are precious to me. I enjoy playing around with words, words to express emotions, words to provoke, words that are meant to last but in the end, it’s empty words, filled with memories only. As time passed on, life is gone.

Just recently I came across the Persian writer Rumi, I don’t know if I heard about him earlier…. this time I was paying attention. Although Rumi’s poetry is from the 13th century, it still is very enjoyable and touching. Today I fell in love with Rumi’s words:

Love is
a mirror
you see nothing
but your reflections
you see nothing but your real face

All the precious words
you and I have exchanged
have found their way
into the heart of the universe
one day they’ll pour on us
like whispering rain
helping us arise
from our roots again

My dear heart
hope is all you have
don’t let it go
if the entire world
is up against you
hold on to your pal
there are wondrous
secrets going on

I am in love with love
love is in love with me
my body fell in love
with my soul
and my soul fell in love with me
we take turns in loving
we take turns in being loved

love is best when many sufferings arise from it
the one who avoids pain can’t know love
a hero is one who in the journey of love
surrenders his life with no calms
in the journey of love
a thousand hearts and souls
will not suffice
only a traveler
ready to give a hundred lives
in every step

and not look back
can take this path

I have become
the owner of a land
with no time and place
I have become the mystic
of a treasure
filled with gold
with a heart burning
in the mother of pearl
I have become
a sea of gracing souls

This poem warms me … this verse in particular has significant meaning and affirmation to me:

“I am in love with love
love is in love with me
my body fell in love
with my soul
and my soul fell in love with me
we take turns in loving
we take turns in being loved”

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” ~Rumi~
Loved everything about this post and the poem you presented with it was wonderful. How often do we look in the mirror and really see one person truly? And the love of falling in love with poetry, writing heals and it is a strength of inspiration for so many! Wonderful post.🌹
